Traditionally dentures are held in place by a denture adhesive, giving you extra hold for when you eat and chew. However, over time, your dentures may loosen and slip out of place – this is due to the gums shrinking and the jaw bone atrophying.
While our technicians are highly trained and experienced in making beautiful, natural-looking denture appliances, every day wear can also cause dentures to loosen over time.
If this sounds familiar, you may benefit from implant retained dentures – offering you a more stable hold and allowing you to eat your favourite foods without worry.
Implant retained dentures are just like a normal denture appliance, however instead of sitting on the gums, they clip on and off dental implants which have been surgically placed into your jaw bone. The implants are made from titanium, so over time they bond with the jaw bone and become fully incorporated into the mouth.
This treatment reduces chances of the denture from slipping or moving out of place. It also greatly reduces soreness or rubbing on the gums and maintains facial shape and structure.
When you attend, we will first ascertain the strength and health of your jaw bone and whether it can hold the implants. We will then determine where in the mouth the implants should be placed.
A denture appliance will be built for you by our experienced technicians and once the implant sites have healed within your mouth, we will show you how to attach and remove the denture.
You will be able to remove and clean the implant retained denture just as you would a normal appliance.
